This months volunteer of the month is Jackie Galvez who comes from The Philippines. Jackie is one of our so called ‘ushers’ and is often one of the first people you can meet when coming to Smyrna International Church.
An important part in her role is to be in church at least an hour before the service begins so she can be put up to date with how things have been during the morning service. She and the others in the usher team always have a good look around to tidy things up and make sure that the toilets are clean and equipped for use.
An important part in being an usher is making visitors feel welcome and assist in answering any questions they may have.
Ushers are also involved in helping out with different responsibilities connected to the main service such as collecting the offering and depositing it in the bank.
When asked what she enjoys the most as an usher, Jackie answers with a smile: ”I enjoy when I get to know the people, when I greet them, talk to them and help them. I am so glad and proud of being a part of this church as the Body of Christ.”
Of course certain situations can be tricky to handle, but then Jackie and her co-workers use divine wisdom to solve the problems as best as possible.
What does Jackie need to remember before she comes to serve as an usher?
”I usually pray and sing some worship songs before I come to the church. I need to remember that l dwell in the house of our Lord God Jesus Christ and have a great time to worship him and to have great fellowship with him. And to serve Him and the body of Christ as well.”
Is there an evidence of God’s presence in your ministry?
Praise the Lord, I feel the Holy Spirit within me more and more everyday. I am growing in my faith for each new day. Glory to God.
Thank you Jackie for being such a blessing to our church! May God bless you as you continue to open your heart and make all our visitors welcome.
